[PTLsim-devel] Tuning PTLsim to fit certain microarchitecture

Hi again,
I was wondering how the PTLsim team did tune PTLsim to closely
match the performance of a K8 core. After all there are fairly big
differences in the exact pipeline layout and tweakable parameters
between the architectures.

I'm asking because I would like to model a Family 10h
microarchitecture in PTLsim, or at least something that comes
reasonably close.

With my slightly tweaked K8-based model I still get performance about
40% worse, more or less correctly resembling a K8 architecture. (At
least for the given workload!)

I understand that I should have a more detailed view at the
micro-architecture, but I'm wondering in general about the process of
fitting a given micro-architecture to PTLsim from the publically
known data (Software Optimisation Guide and other public K10
microarchitecture overviews).

Many thanks for pointers!

Yours,
  Stephan
