Heh, if he gives you access to all these commands, he might as well give you the whole machine. :)
In other words, it doesn't elevate the security :) Or at least not a lot.
Just ask for one cheap 64-bit machine. You can get one for less then 300€ now, for sure :) Or you can buy one used yourself, for even less then that.
I use sudo just for the comfort of using my user account.

  Yes, I use sudo. But, you have to use it often... almost for every command...
